Booking a cruise is indeed a skill, especially for beginners. Not only is there an overwhelming amount of information, but it's also easy to get scammed!
As a travel agency with years of experience in the cruise industry, today we'll expose the common pitfalls and scams to help you make smart purchases and avoid getting ripped off!
💣 Scam 1: Beware of "Unbelievably Low Prices"!
You might see tempting offers claiming "insider tickets" or "last-minute deals" at just 30% of the official website price? Wake up! There's no such thing as a free lunch!
❌ The Trap:
Scammers take your money without issuing tickets, or give you fake booking numbers. By the time you realize it, they've already blocked you and vanished.
✅ The Right Way:
Cruise prices are relatively transparent. Low prices do exist, but they won't be absurdly cheap. Book only through official authorized agents or the cruise line's official website, and always pay to a corporate/business account! Block anyone who asks you to transfer money to a "personal" account!
💣 Scam 2: The "All-Inclusive" Word Game!
Many promotions advertise "$XXX All-Inclusive," but once onboard, you're just a lamb waiting to be slaughtered!
❌ The Trap:
The quoted price only covers the cruise ticket, excluding thousands of dollars in port fees, taxes, and cruise service gratuities. Some even have mandatory charges onboard.
✅ The Right Way:
Before booking, you must ask clearly: "Does this price include port fees and taxes? What are the mandatory gratuities once onboard?" Reject hidden bills!
*Some cruise lines allow you to request adjustments or removal of gratuities at the guest services desk, but valid reasons are required.
💣 Scam 3: "Discount Rooms" Turn into "Nightmare Rooms"
Bought a "Guaranteed Cabin" or discounted room to save money? While you might get a steal, the risk is huge.
❌ The Trap:
The so-called "random assignment" often means you'll get a room near the engines at the bottom of the ship, below the theater, or with your view completely blocked by lifeboats.
✅ The Right Way:
Cabin selection is key to your cruise experience. When traveling with seniors or children, never choose a random/guaranteed room just to save money! Even if it costs a bit more, check the deck plan and "specify your room number." It's best to avoid cabins located directly above or below disco lounges, theaters, casinos, galleys, or engine rooms.
💣 Scam 4: Fake Agents Asking for "Personal Transfers"!
They ask you to transfer money via Zelle or similar methods to a personal account, instead of a corporate account or the cruise line's official payment system.
❌ The Trap:
Anyone claiming to be a customer service rep or private channel agent who gives you various excuses to transfer money to a personal account—block them immediately!
✅ The Right Way:
Book only through official authorized agents or the cruise line's official website, and always pay to a corporate account! Legitimate agents can process credit card payments directly to the cruise line. They will never ask for a personal transfer. Payments must be made via credit card to the cruise line's official account.
💣 Scam 5: Unfair Cancellation/Change "Fine Print"!
Unlike flights and hotels, cruise cancellation policies are extremely strict.
❌ The Trap:
Many unlicensed agents don't sign formal contracts. They casually promise "full refund anytime" but hide unfair clauses in the fine print. When you actually can't go, you get nothing back!
✅ The Right Way:
Always book through official authorized agents or the cruise line's official website, and insist on signing a formal travel contract! Before signing, carefully review the "Cancellation Policy." We highly recommend purchasing travel cancellation insurance to protect against sudden illness or emergencies.
💣 Scam 6: The "Free Cruise" Bait!
There's no such thing as a free lunch—the "free" option is always the most expensive!
❌ The Trap:
Scammers often use fake "prize wins" or "free experiences" to lure you into paying high "taxes," "processing fees," or push various money-draining products onboard.
✅ The Right Way:
Keep your eyes open! Verify all promotions through the cruise line's official channels or reputable travel agencies. The only reliable way to learn about and book cruises is through official cruise websites, well-known travel agencies, or licensed and certified agents.

Important Cruise Information:
Passenger check-in typically begins approximately 4 hours prior to departure. Guests are advised to arrive at the terminal 4 hours in advance, and no later than 2 hours before departure. All passengers must board on time; late arrivals will not be accommodated, and no refunds will be issued.
Upon arrival at the terminal, attach the cruise luggage tags to your large checked bags. Please write your stateroom number and your English name or Pinyin (must match your passport) on the tag. Your checked luggage will be delivered to your stateroom approximately one hour after boarding. Please note: Do not pack essential travel documents (e.g., passport, Green Card, boarding documents) in your checked luggage, as you will not be able to complete check-in or board the ship without them.
After checking your luggage, proceed to the cruise terminal service counter to complete boarding procedures. Have your passport and completed boarding documents ready and wait in line. During check-in, the cruise line may collect your passport for safekeeping. Be sure to request a receipt from the cruise line so you can retrieve your passport for immigration procedures after the cruise.
Upon completing check-in, each passenger will receive a Cruise Boarding Card (which displays the ship name, departure date, passenger's English name, dining restaurant, dining time, table number, stateroom number, and passenger account number). This card serves as your passenger identification, is required for embarking and disembarking, and functions as your stateroom key and onboard credit card throughout the voyage. Please carry it with you at all times. If lost, report it immediately to the guest services desk onboard to request a replacement.
After boarding, a crew member will escort you to your stateroom. To ensure your luggage is delivered correctly, please do not change staterooms arbitrarily. If vacancies are available, passengers may request an upgrade to a higher-category stateroom after departure, but must pay the full price difference in cash or traveler's checks. Each passenger is issued a stateroom key card (which also serves as your onboard account card and boarding pass). When leaving your stateroom, always take your key card with you to avoid being locked out.
An emergency lifeboat drill will be conducted on the day of boarding. When the alarm sounds, please put on your life jacket (located in the top shelf of the closet or under the bed) and proceed to your designated muster station (the muster station and lifeboat number are indicated on the life jacket). Please follow the crew's demonstration for proper life jacket usage, or refer to the illustrated instructions posted on the bathroom wall.
Almost every stateroom onboard is equipped with a safe. Please store valuables, cash, and other important items inside. In the event of loss, neither our company nor the cruise line will be held responsible.
If a passenger temporarily changes their itinerary for personal reasons, or disembarks mid-voyage due to force majeure or other reasons, all outstanding fees must be paid in full. No refunds will be issued (including for any unused meals).
In the event of itinerary changes due to weather, mechanical failure, political or economic conditions, cruise suspensions, or other force majeure factors, the cruise line reserves the right to modify the itinerary to protect passenger safety and interests. Passengers may not object to such changes.
The ship is equipped with a medical center and medical staff. Additional fees may apply depending on passenger needs.
During the voyage, if luggage is damaged or lost, passengers must immediately report it to the cruise line's guest services desk and request a copy of the relevant documentation. All liability claims will be processed according to applicable insurance policies.
In accordance with cruise line regulations, smoking is strictly prohibited in staterooms during the voyage. If you need to smoke, please proceed to the deck or designated smoking areas. A cleaning fee of $250 per night will be charged for violations. Passengers are solely responsible for these charges; our company assumes no liability.
Passengers are required to abide by the cruise line's rules and requirements during the voyage. Any damage to public property must be compensated accordingly. Cruise tour terms and conditions are subject to periodic revision and will be promptly updated on the official website. Agents must carefully review the tour regulations and cruise line policies before assisting guests with registration. Our company's obligations are limited to these terms and conditions. Unless otherwise explicitly stated herein or required by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential, incidental, or punitive damages.

How to Choose a Cabin Type?
Interior Cabin: No windows in the room. Generally, it's the most affordable option across all cabin categories! Ideal for budget-conscious travelers who spend little time in their rooms and have plenty of energy to enjoy onboard activities.
Oceanview Cabin: Features a fixed, non-opening window that offers views of the sea. Window shapes vary by cruise line. Suitable for passengers who want natural light but have a tighter budget than balcony cabins. Note that some may have partially obstructed views, so please confirm in advance when booking!
Balcony Cabin: Typically faces the open sea, so you can step outside and feel the ocean breeze! Some cruise lines offer balcony cabins facing the interior of the ship (interior views). It's best to confirm with us before booking. Ideal for travelers seeking a premium experience, quiet atmosphere, and private outdoor space. Highly recommended for seniors, couples, or families with one child. It's also a great balance between budget and experience.
Suite: Significantly larger than the previous three categories, usually featuring a separate living area or multiple bedrooms. Ideal for passengers with a generous budget seeking a luxurious experience and exclusive service, as well as large multi-person families.
How to Choose a Cabin Location on the Ship?
Location |
Advantages |
Disadvantages |
Mid-ship |
rocking motion, convenient access to all areas |
May be priced higher |
Forward (Front) |
Some specific cabins offer excellent views |
More noticeable rocking motion, balcony cabins at the front may be windier |
Aft (Rear) |
Great for sightseeing, less wind |
Most noticeable rocking motion, catches the waves directly |
Higher Decks |
Better views, closer to entertainment facilities |
Stronger rocking motion, higher fares, potentially more noise |
Lower Decks |
Smoother ride, lower fares |
Poorer views, potential noise depending on nearby facilities |
Helpful Reminders:
For a quieter room: Avoid cabins near public facilities such as pools, bars, and elevators to minimize noise.
For an unobstructed view: Some oceanview or balcony cabins may have views partially blocked by lifeboats or interior ship structures. These cabins will be specifically noted during booking and are usually priced lower.
Connecting Rooms: If traveling with family or friends and wanting two separate rooms, you can choose connecting rooms. They feature a door between them that can be opened to link the two spaces, making it easy to move around and look after each other. Note: If traveling solo or as a couple, connecting rooms may have more noise due to the shared door.
Guarantee Cabin (GTY): Generally priced lower within the same cabin category. You cannot choose your specific cabin location. Some cruise lines assign cabins before departure or upon boarding. You may occasionally be upgraded to a better cabin, but if assigned to a less desirable location, no changes can be made.
First-Time Cruising?
Essentials to Bring: Be sure to pack toiletries, common medications (e.g., cold medicine, motion sickness pills), swimwear, slippers, sunglasses, sunscreen/sun protection, formal wear, athletic shoes, local currency, etc. These will make your cruise experience even better.
Purchase Wi-Fi: Some cruise lines include free Wi-Fi with certain bookings, but it's best to buy it in advance for discounts. Purchasing onboard may be more expensive!
Upon Boarding: After checking in, locate the elevator or stairs closest to your stateroom. This will help you get to your destination quickly, as it's very easy to get lost on your first time aboard!
Dining: After boarding, you'll typically receive a cruise handbook in your stateroom or can pick one up at the front desk. Familiarize yourself with the locations and operating hours of all restaurants as soon as possible. For popular specialty dining restaurants, advance reservations are recommended. The handbook will list contact numbers, or you can visit them directly to inquire.
Entertainment & Shows: For major performances, it's recommended to arrive early to secure seats. Arriving late may mean long queues or even missing out on the show entirely.
Other Activities: For activities with limited capacity, it's advisable to make reservations by phone or inquire in person. Participating in some free mini-activities may even earn you small prizes!

There are usually no strict restrictions, but it is recommended to bring 1-2 suitcases per person, plus up to two carry-on items (dimensions should follow airline standards).
Do I need to bring formal wear?
Some formal dinners or themed events may require formal or semi-formal attire, while everyday wear is mainly casual and comfortable.
Do I need to reserve dining times on the cruise?
Breakfast and lunch generally do not require advance reservations. On some ships, due to seating limitations in the main dining room, dinner reservations are required in advance; you can confirm this with us when booking. Some specialty restaurants on board can only be reserved after boarding.
Is medical service available on the cruise?
All ships are equipped with medical centers and staff. Depending on your needs, additional medical fees may apply. If you have chronic conditions, we recommend bringing your medication and a doctor's certificate. Parents traveling with children are advised to pack common medicines for emergencies. Pregnant women, those recovering from surgery, and other high-risk travelers are advised to consult a doctor before booking. In the event of an accident or fatality during the voyage, claims will be handled according to the travel insurance purchased by the passenger.
How do I make purchases on board? How are onboard gratuities paid?
After boarding, you can set up a cash account (requires a deposit) at the front desk or directly link a credit card. For both methods, your statement will be delivered to your stateroom on the night before disembarkation, or you can check it at the front desk. Daily gratuities are automatically added to your stateroom account. Cash accounts must be settled before disembarkation. If you link a credit card, some cruise lines will place a pre-authorization hold to verify the card. Charges are not deducted in real time; please review your statement before disembarkation. The cruise line will process all charges after the voyage and release the hold on your card.
Does the cruise provide wheelchair services? Are personal wheelchairs allowed on board?
A limited number of wheelchairs are available for passenger use. You can contact us before departure to request wheelchair assistance for embarkation and disembarkation procedures. If you need a wheelchair during the cruise, you must arrange it through a third-party wheelchair rental company or bring your own foldable wheelchair. Both personal and third-party rentals require prior approval from the cruise line. A limited number of accessible staterooms are available; please inform us when booking. If you have mobility issues and have booked shore excursions, we recommend bringing your own wheelchair. Wheelchairs cannot be left outside staterooms. On some itineraries, tender boats may not accommodate certain wheelchair sizes; please contact us before booking and provide your wheelchair dimensions.
If I buy wine/champagne on board, can I drink it during the cruise?
Beverages purchased at bars/restaurants can be consumed on the spot, though some cruise lines may charge a corkage fee. Alcohol purchased in the duty-free shop cannot be consumed during the voyage. Staff will seal and store it for you, and return it at the end of the cruise.
How can I find out about daily onboard activities?
Daily schedules are posted throughout the ship, and staff will deliver an activity guide/flyer to your stateroom each day. With a wide variety of exciting activities, you can easily plan your onboard entertainment!
How are beds arranged for the 3rd/4th passengers in a stateroom?
Standard staterooms typically feature one large bed (which can be split into two twins), plus a sofa bed or pullman bed (subject to the specific room configuration). If you are not booking a suite, interior, ocean-view, and balcony staterooms are generally the same size (varying only by cabin category), with the only difference being the additional sleeping accommodations.
Self-Cancellation/Change of Booking
If you have already paid a deposit/full payment, the cancellation policy is specified on the booking confirmation. Any changes made to the booking will incur fees as notified by the cruise line.
Cruise Line Cancellation/Change of Itinerary
For itineraries cancelled by the cruise line, a full refund is generally provided. If the cruise line makes changes to the itinerary, corresponding compensation will be offered, typically in the form of onboard credit/future cruise booking credit, or a refund may be available. Specific compensation measures and refundable amounts are subject to the cruise line's notification.
